Chairing Styles Collaboration

The Chairing Styles program at FIDM is a collaboration between a textile designer, fashion designer, and interior designer. The goal was to create a cohesive dress and chair using the textile designer's fabric. The inspiration for my Chairing Styles dress is a pleating method used by the famous French couturier, Madame Grès. First, the pleats were separately pinned in place for the desired width and shape. After each one was pinned, I went back and individually hand stitched the pleats twice. About 20+ hours went into the pleating. This dress was 1 of 10 shown in the FIDM Debut Fashion Show where I was awarded 3rd place for “Outstanding Fashion Design.”
