Hello

My name is Hannah Rose Reilly and thank you for viewing my work! Here is a bit about me and my journey to a career in fashion design.

My Story

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. My grandmother/professional artist, Carol, introduced me to art at a young age. I grew up visiting art galleries, learning about various types of art, and playing Go Fish: Post-Impressionist Artist Edition with her.

When I was 14 years old I learned how to sew. I enrolled in a clothing class at my high school, and made my first garment, a pair of pajama pants. Although this was a basic garment, it was the art of creating that made me realize I wanted to be a fashion designer. From there I learned to hand sew, embroider, and I had a private sewing instructor who was teaching me patternmaking.

In my last year of high school, our fashion club put on a show. By this time, I learned to create a variety of garments and discovered my love for hand embroidery. After spending about one month traveling through Israel, I made a mini collection of four outfits inspired by the women of the Israeli Defense Forces. This same collection got me accepted to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles.

At FIDM I was 1 of 10 chosen for the Chairing Styles program, and 1 of 8 chosen for the Red Dress program. While attending FIDM I was also an intern for fashion designer, Candice Cuoco, and aided in the creation of her 'Bad Butterfly' collection, which we presented at L.A. Fashion Week. I graduated from FIDM with honors and my Associates of Arts degree in fashion design.

After FIDM, I continued my studies at École Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode (ESMOD) with the goal of specializing in haute couture. I joined ESMOD Paris in the second year of a three year degree. I completed second year in the bilingual class, and was accepted into the couture specialization for my third year. For my graduating collection, I centered it around a topic that is very close to my heart: stopping men's violence against women. During my time at ESMOD I worked backstage for multiple Paris Fashion Weeks, and learned about the differences and similarities of the fashion worlds in the United States and France. Studying design in both countries has given me a broad view of fashion and the industry.

Outside of ESMOD, I study lunéville embroidery at École Lesage. Embroidery is one of the main reasons I am passionate about haute couture. It's what can turn clothing into wearable art. I completed the 9 class-hour beginner course where I created a butterfly brooch. Now, I am halfway through École Lesage's haute couture embroidery certification which is 150 class hours (plus 100+ home hours).

Through my years of designing, I’ve been able to hone my artistic skills and step into who I am as a designer. My designs are a way for me to express myself and use my voice through art. Since I first started designing, I usually gravitate towards the same theme, feminism. As a survivor of abuse, standing up for women’s rights, safety, peace, and mental health has become a passion of mine. My goal is to create a supportive community through my art. A community of strong people and allies who can wear Hannah Rose and remember they are not alone in their fight.

I recently graduated from ESMOD and I'm looking for an internship to validate my studies. If you would like to connect, please see the contact information below.
